What mom doesn’t love to get jewelry for a holiday or birthday gift? But the kids don’t really get to be very involved in a gift like jewelry. Why not let them make a pretty homemade jewelry plate for her new earrings or mom ring? It’s fun and pretty easy to do.
You will need:
Stamps
Your favorite acrylic paint colors
Paintbrushes
Take a chunk of the sculpting clay and knead and roll it in your hands until it forms into a nice soft ball. It will take some effort in the beginning.
To make the plate shape, I took two plates and wax paper and pressed the ball between them to flatten the ball.
Once you have your general shape, you can press anything into the clay to make a pretty marking on the plate. I found some pretty stamps from my local craft store, but you could do kiddo hands, thumbprints, a doily, or any other item around the house that has an interesting texture.
I baked the disc according to instructions on the package, but I baked the clay over an oven safe bowl on a sheet pan to give it some curve on the edges. Once cooled, paint the plate with an acrylic paint. When it is dry, you can do a coat of a sealer to make sure it lasts a long time! I also glued a gem I got on clearance at the craft store. I thought it added a nice touch! You can go crazy on these and be super creative. What about a metallic paint? Or add a piece that sticks up in the middle for a ring holder. The options are endless!
