As my sons are getting older I am still looking for ways to preserve their handprints, fingerprints and footprints. At 7 & 8 years old they sometimes think Mommy’s ideas are too ‘baby’ and do not want to participate. I wondered what they would think when I asked them about making handprint ornaments. Luckily for me they thought it was a great idea!
All you need are textured paper mache ball ornaments, paint and a hand! First I painted the brown paper ornaments what I like to call “Frozen” blue. Once they dried we spread white paint on the boys fingers and thumb and then I handed each of them an ornament which they grasped tightly for a few seconds. I then hung the ornaments to dry. We came back a while later and added our Snowman details! A few dots of black paint become coal for the eyes, mouths and buttons down the front and a dab of orange made a quick carrot nose.
Although they were cute with their coal and carrots we felt like our Snowmen needed a few more details so we added a top hat for one, a bowler hat for another and scarves for all!
There is also a cute poem to add with this ornament if you are gifting it!
These aren’t just five snowmen
as anyone can see.
I made them from my hand
which is a part of me.
Now each year, when you trim the tree
you will look back and recall
the Christmas of 2014
when my hand was just this small.
Our Handprint Snowman Ornament was so fun and easy to make! And I have another beautiful keepsake to hang on our tree for many years to come.
